Lifetime Ban to David Scott Thomas
The University of Guelph fired David Scott Thomas on Dec. 16 for unprofessional conduct. Athletics Canada issues a lifetime ban to the former national team coach David Scott Thomas. Former middle-distance runner Megan Brown came forward alleging David Scott Thomas groomed her for a sexual relationship when she was 17. He is banned from coaching or training any Athletics Canada athlete or member of an affiliated club or association. He’s also banned from attending any event such as a track meet as a spectator unless his children are registered to compete, and will have no access to the track, training and warm-up areas.

OFFICE OF THE ATHLETICS CANADA COMMISSIONER IN THE MATTER OF A COMPLAINT CONCERNING DAVID SCOTT THOMAS OF THE SPEED RIVER TRACK AND FIELD CLUB THE UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH TRACK CLUB ATHLETICS ONTARIO AND ATHLETICS CANADA
ORDER
Upon receipt of a Complaint against David Scott-Thomas dated January 21, 2020, alleging that he engaged in behaviour that constitutes a violation of the Athletics Canada Code of Conduct, the Commissioner’s Office proceeded to confirm jurisdiction over the Complaint and issue a Notice of Suspension dated January 21, 2020, immediately suspending Mr. David Scott Thomas from Athletics Canada, its branches and clubs until the Complaint had been finally disposed. Pursuant to the authority and discretion afforded to the Athletics Canada Commissioner’s Office: Mr. David Scott Thomas is subject to a lifetime ban from Athletics Canada during which time he shall not coach or train a Member of Athletics Canada or a Member of any affiliated Club or Association. Effective immediately and for a period of five (5) years Mr. David Scott Thomas shall not participate in or attend, in any capacity, Athletics Canada facilities, including hubs and/or training centers, competition or events that are organized, convened, held or sanctioned by Athletics Canada or by a member of Athletics Canada including any affiliated club or association provided however that he may attend as a spectator of events in which his children/immediate family are registered. Mr. David Scott Thomas shall not engage in any coaching nor shall he have access to the track, training or warm-up areas that are restricted to coaches and athletes failing which he shall be subject to an automatic lifetime ban from attending any such events. Upon expiry of the five (5) year ban, Mr. David Scott Thomas may attend competitions or events organized, convened, held or sanctioned by Athletics Canada or by a member of Athletics Canada including any affiliated club or association, that are open to members of the general public. Mr. David Scott Thomas shall not engage in coaching or have access to the track, training or warm-up areas or any area where access to members of the general public is restricted failing which he shall be subject to an automatic lifetime ban from attending any such events. The Chief Operating Officer of Athletics Canada is directed to forthwith post notice on the Athletics Canada website and on the Athletics Canada Safe Sport – Suspended Individuals webpage; to advise the Minister of Sport, Athletics Canada Branches and Clubs, the Coaching Association of Canada, World Athletics, and the Athletics Integrity Unit.

À la suite de la réception d’une plainte datée du 21 janvier 2020 contre David Scott Thomas alléguant qu’il a adopté un comportement constituant une violation du Code de conduite d’Athlétisme Canada, le Bureau du commissaire a confirmé sa jurisprudence à l’égard de la plainte et a émis un avis daté du 21 janvier 2020 qui confirme la suspension immédiate de M. David Scott Thomas d’Athlétisme Canada, de ses associations membres et de ses clubs jusqu’à ce que la plainte ait été entièrement examinée. En vertu de l’autorité et à la discrétion accordées au Bureau du commissaire d’Athlétisme Canada: M. David Scott Thomas fait l’objet d’une interdiction à vie d’Athlétisme Canada pendant laquelle il ne pourra pas occuper le rôle d’entraîneur d’un membre d’Athlétisme Canada ou d’un membred’un club ou d’une association affiliés. Effectif immédiatement et pour une période de cinq (5) ans, M. David Scott Thomas ne peut pas participer ou se présenter, à quelque titre que ce soit, aux installations d’Athlétisme Canada, y compris les carrefours et/ou les centres d’entraînement, les compétitions ou les évènements organisés, convoqués, tenus ou sanctionnés par Athlétisme Canada ou par un membre d’Athlétisme Canada, y compris tout club ou association affilié. Il peut toutefois assister en tant que spectateur aux évènements auxquels ses enfants ou sa famille immédiate participent. M. David Scott Thomas ne peut pas occuper de fonction liée au rôle d’entraîneur et ne peut pas avoir accès aux aires de piste, d’entraînement ou d’échauffement qui sont réservées aux entraîneurs et aux athlètes, faute de quoi il fera automatiquement l’objet d’une interdiction à vie d’assister à ces évènements. Au moment où l’interdiction de cinq (5) ans prendra fin, M. David Scott Thomas pourra assister aux compétitions ou aux évènements organisés, convoqués, tenus ou sanctionnés par Athlétisme Canada ou par un membre d’Athlétisme Canada, y compris tout club ou association affilié, qui sont ouverts aux membres du grand public. M. David Scott Thomas ne pourra pas occuper de fonction reliée au rôle d’entraîneur ni avoir accès aux aires de piste, d’entraînement ou d’échauffement ou à toute aire dont l’accès est limité aux membres du grand public, faute de quoi il fera automatiquement l’objet d’une interdiction à vie d’assister à ces évènements. Le chef de l’exploitation d’Athlétisme Canada est tenu de publier immédiatement un avis sur le site web d’Athlétisme Canada et sur la page Sport sécuritaire d’Athlétisme Canada dans la section « Individus suspendus ». Il doit également aviser le ministre des Sports, les associations membres et les clubs d’Athlétisme Canada, l’Association canadienne des entraîneurs, World Athletics et l’Unité de l’intégrité de l’athlétisme.
