On June 16, TIFF will explore the representation of the policing of Black lives on film with a special conversation hosted by Cameron Bailey. Special guests include film scholar and activist Nataleah Hunter-Young; Dr. Courtney Baker, an Associate Professor at the University of California; and award-winning Toronto filmmaker Clement Virgo.  Then, on June 19, Juneteenth,  the TIFF + Crave Stay-at-Home Cinema experience returns with Steve McQueen’s thriller Widows. With a special conversation hosted by Cameron Bailey.

On Tuesday, June 16 at 7 pm EDT, Cameron Bailey will host a special online conversation via tiff on policing Black lives and police portrayals in film and TV.  Special guests include film scholar and activist Nataleah Hunter-Young; Dr. Courtney Baker, an Associate Professor at the University of California; and award-winning Toronto filmmaker Clement Virgo.

 

Friday, June 19 – Steve McQueen’s thriller Widows

Juneteenth Friday, June 19 at 7 pm EDT, a conversation hosted by Cameron Bailey.  Special guest for the Q&A is yet to be confirmed. Following the chat, audiences are invited to watch Steve McQueen’s thriller Widows on Crave.

“Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities.  Set in Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez), and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. Other stars in “Widows” include Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas, and Brian Tyree Henry.
