Statement from Melissa McCarthy on the plot
The film takes place in Chicago. It’s modern time. However, it’s taking place where there have been mutations happening with certain people and it’s elevating their natural selves. If you are a good person, you might not be affected but you are on the spectrum of sociopaths or have evil extinct the mutation can elevate your true person. So there are miscreants. There are villains living among us.
Scientist Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) has developed a process to give superpowers to regular people. Her old friend Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) while roaming the lab accidentally injects herself. She starts to develop powers. The two women decide to become a superhero team. They are known as Thunder Force. The goal is to take on the miscreants of Chicago.
I laughed a few times during the film. The scenes with Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy were funny. I thought the story was so-so. I suppose I was expecting more from the cast.
The 105 minutes film will be available on Netflix on April 9, 2021.
