THE FATHER Canadian Release

Elevation Pictures will be releasing THE FATHER this February 2021.  The Father is a 2020 drama film starring Olivia Colman, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Gatiss.

Other cast members include Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell and Olivia Williams.

The director of the film is Florian Zeller. It is based on his 2012 play Le Père.

The world premiere was at the Sundance Film Festival.  There was also a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival

When I started working on the adaptation of my play, the face that came and came again to my mind was always Anthony Hopkins

I had the profound conviction he would be so powerful and devastating in this part. He was at the beginning of my desire to make this film. This is the only reason for my decision to do it in English: it was a way to come to him. In that sense, he was part of my dream. That’s why the main character’s name is Anthony.

Synopsis

A man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind, and even the fabric of his reality.
