Singer, Songwriter & Producer James Worthy Talks about Career in the Music Business

On days like this, I find that meditation is a good way to remain calm. Before I create, I need some time to myself. Usually, I start by finding a comfortable spot to relax. Today, I picked the office, turned on Spotify, closed my eyes, and listened to some music on my earphones. I am listening to Singer, Songwriter & Producer James Worthy “Blu Leisure & Kaleidoscopes“. His mellow R&B vibe in Glow is just what I needed. I decided to reach out to congratulate him on his EP’s and we ended up having a quick conversation about the music business.

James Worthy Worthy came to prominence with producing, and writing for artists such as Lil Zane, Kalenna Harper, Sammie, Yung Berg, Fetty Wap, and many others.[2][3] His most notable production work include

Singer, Songwriter & Producer James Worthy Talks about Career in the Music Business

1. How did you get into music? Is there anyone that influenced your decision?

I got into music at age 11. I started writing songs, in the beginning, to see if I could put words together in song format. That came from studying other musicians early on. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, A Tribe Called Quest, Quincy Jones, Kanye West, and many others so those key people inspired me to want to create my own music. I didn’t really come from a musical family or background, a lot of my work came from trial & error, and teaching myself how to make songs on my own.

2. You have worked collaboratively with multiple artists. Can you give us some perspective on how some of these relationships happened and what you may have learned from others?

They have all came about in interesting ways to say the least. Some from label meetings, networking, social media, or being in the same studios. Throughout the years I’ve learned that relationships are the biggest factor in the business so I’ve always made it a point to keep great relationships with the artist which is why I have had the pleasure of working with so many.

3. Can you describe your process of making and producing music?

It really comes down to Mood & Feeling. If I’m going through something in life I will write about it, but it would have to be the right time to convey it in timing. The same thing with production, so once I have both going it is easy to form the songs. I also below lighting helps as well when creating in which when I am in the studio candles and dim lightning helps me vibe well.

4. Describe how you felt before and after the release of your debut EP “Blu Leisure”.

Going into the project I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that I wanted to make something creative, and innovative for the fans who demanded music from me. Once it was released it was an overwhelming experience, because the amount of love, support, and appreciation was amazing. I even had a sold-out release event for the EP the day after it released which was the icing on top.
