The Results Are In (100 votes)
Based on a survey ‘Pick one movie from Denzel Washington‘, (Ricochet, Fallen, the Bone Collector, Man On Fire, and Unstoppable) I conducted on Instagram #whatonwhatsgood fans picked Ricochet (70 votes). Go check it out. Thank you for voting.
Ricochet
Ricochet is an action crime thriller film. Starring not only Denzel Washington (Assistant District Attorney Nicholas “Nick” Styles) but John Lithgow (Earl Talbot Blake), Ice-T (Odessa), Kevin Pollak (Lieutenant Larry Doyle), and Lindsay Wagner (D.A. Priscilla Brimleigh). The film details a struggle between an attorney Nick Styles (Washington) and a criminal Earl Talbot Blake (Lithgow) whom he arrested when he was a cop. I particularly enjoyed seeing John Lithgow is a bad guy. Ricochet available on Amazon.
Fallen
Fallen is a supernatural detective thriller film. The film tells the story of John Hobbes (Washington), a Philadelphia police detective who is investigating murders committed by an apparent copycat killer. Other Fallen cast members include John Goodman, Donald Sutherland, Embeth Davidtz, James Gandolfini, and Elias Koteas star. The movie Fallen quickly grabbed my attention when the opening line was “I want to tell you about the time I almost died.” The other part from Fallen that I found fascinating was that the killer could be anyone such as a middle-aged woman, a timid man, or someone completely different. Essentially in this story, a demon passes from one human host to the next from something as simple as a touch of a hand. Fallen on Amazon.
The Bone Collector
The Bone Collector is a crime thriller film starring Denzel Washington (Lincoln Rhymes) and Angelina Jolie (Amelia Donaghy). Supporting cast members includes Queen Latifah, Michael Rooker, Mike McGlone, Luis Guzman, Leland Orser, and Ed O’Neill. After a tragic accident changes the life of Lincoln Rhymes, this onetime top homicide investigator has to count on a young rookie Amelia Donaghy (Jolie) to search for clues in order to solve the crime. I thought this was an interesting story to showcase both the talents of Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. Fun fact: In May 2019, the story got picked up by NBC and it was called Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector. The Bone Collector on Netflix and Hulu.
Man on Fire
Denzel Washington plays John Creasy, a despondent, alcoholic former Special Activities Division operative/U.S. Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance officer-turned bodyguard. Supporting cast members includes Christopher Walken, Radha Mitchell, Giancarlo Giannini, Marc Anthony, Rachel Ticotin, and Mickey Rourke. Creasy (Washington) is not in a good place when the movie starts. He is assigned to guard a nine-year-old daughter “Pita”. As he gets to know the nine-year-old Lupita “Pita” Ramos (Dakota Fanning) a group of thugs kidnaps her. Let’s just say this is a movie to watch because you shouldn’t get Creasy mad. Man On Fire on Amazon.
Unstoppable
Unstoppable is an action thriller starring Denzel Washington (Frank Barnes, a veteran railroad engineer) and Chris Pine. (Will Colson, a young train conductor) Cast members from Unstoppable include Rosario Dawson, Ethan Suplee, Kevin Dunn, Kevin Corrigan, Kevin Chapman, Lew Temple, T. J. Miller, Jessy Schram, David Warshofsky, Andy Umberger, Elizabeth Mathis, Maya Barnes, Aisha Hinds, and Ryan Ahern. It is loosely based on the real-life CSX 8888 incident, telling the story of a runaway freight train and the two men who attempt to stop it. It was fun to see if Chris Pine (Colson) and Denzel Washington (Barnes) in Unstoppable can co-exist to run down and stop an unmanned chemical train with no brakes before it destroys an entire city. Unstoppable on Hulu.

John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.” John David Washington was part of the main cast of the HBO comedy series Ballers (2015–2019). He also starred as Ron Stallworth in Spike Lee’s crime film BlacKkKlansman (2018).
