Behind every door is an opportunity. I met Krissy Myers at Trebas Toronto. Krissy currently works on the popular #bond_age_ podcast. At the event, Krissy discussed some of her amazing techniques on podcasting. For roughly 45 minutes, students, professors and others had the opportunity to listen, learn and ask questions. It was a very unique opportunity. After the event, I figured I would take Krissy Myers to a special location for a quick interview.
We walked into a secluded location with 3 doors. I looked at Krissy and explained: “Behind every door is an opportunity, but you will have to choose wisely. (pause and snickered) Actually not really. I will let you see what is behind each door.” Krissy opens door 1. All the actors that ever played James Bond including Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig were in this room. It was quite amusing watching them discuss the best martini they ever had in their lives. Krissy closed the door and smiles. She was now curious about who was behind Door 2. The door opened and Krissy sees all of James Bond Romantic interests, Femme Fatales and Sacrificial lambs. It included Honey Ryder, Thumper, Solitaire, Mary Goodnight, Anya Amasova, Naomi, Dr. Christmas Jones, Elektra King, Giacinta “Jinx” Johnson, Inga Bergstrøm, Strawberry Fields, Plenty O’Toole and many more. Let’s just say they looked a bit annoyed. She closed the door and ran towards Door 3. All the James Bond Villains including Dr. Julius No, Auric Goldfinger, Emilio Largo, Ernst Stavro, Elektra King, Le Chiffre and more were grinning in anticipation.
I grabbed Krissy and took her away from the area. I started to describe the situation. “Well…I already told everyone involved in the room that I can ask you simple questions like ‘Who is the best James Bond, villain, love interest, etc… or … we can let them decide for us. We can check out the rooms after the interview. What do you think?” She nodded yes. I went back to the area to ring the bell.

1. Krissy Myers, can you talk about your photography background?
I’ve freelanced as a photographer since 2013. I generally say that I photograph “People.”
2. What kind of pictures do you like to take?
Predominantly, I take photos at events, but I also have done several editorial portrait shoots. I’ve done a lot of “bread and butter” photography: Families, Kids, Weddings, Actors and Business Headshots.
3. Your portfolio includes work with Canadian Living Magazine, The Toronto Star, The Winnipeg Free Press, The Globe And Mail, Metro, CBC, CTV, Teletoon, Space (now CTV-SciFi). Random questions. Can you tell us about how you built relationships with these companies & the work that you did for them?
Networking and putting work out there, basically. Often times, publications will approach me to buy photos I’ve already taken. Sometimes I’m recommended by a friend who needs photos done for a project. I got to do a portrait shoot for Canadian Living of my friend Walt and his family because we played in Pinball Leagues together. Sometimes cool work comes to you the long way around.
4. You have a background as a director and video editor. Let’s say that you are new to video editing. Krissy Myers. what would you recommend as a starting point?
If you’re serious about becoming a video editor, it requires a fair bit of an investment. Not just money, but time. You’ll want to learn at least one or two if not all of the following programs: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Davinci Resolve. There are countless online resources that teach the inner workings of every program.
Watch a lot of movies and TV, but watch them for the “cuts.” Learning how to edit is not unlike learning how to play a musical instrument. You learn pacing, tone, mood, etc. Just like how playing Jazz or Classical on the piano requires different techniques, cutting a drama or comedy or action film or cutting for narrative or documentary are all entirely different styles.
The hallmark of a good editor is one that can take the same footage, and tell the same story in 2 hours or 2 minutes with equal effectiveness.
5. Just for fun. You have incredible knowledge of the topic of 007. If you were to create your own James Bond movie who would you cast and why?
Most people are probably gunning for Idris Elba, which is interesting and ground-breaking casting, but I think Tom Hiddleston would make for a fine James Bond. He can do action, dry wit, and has a very devout fan following. He’s closer to the version of what Ian Fleming had in mind for the part. More of a contemporary Cary Grant or David Niven.
After the interview we returned to the 3 doors. I looked at Krissy. “Well I’m not really sure how these rooms are going to look, but it will be awesome to find out who is the #1 James Bond, #1 Villain and #1 James Bond Romantic interests, Femme Fatales and Sacrificial lambs. We opened the doors in amazement.
